Common Questions

1. How do online lessons work?

I teach through a professional music platform called Mooz, designed specifically for online lessons. It allows for high-quality audio, screen sharing, and even multiple camera angles if needed.

All you need is a device with a camera and internet connection. I’ll guide you through everything before your first lesson.

2. What equipment do I need?

At minimum, just a phone, tablet, or laptop with a camera.

Ideally, I should be able to see your hands on the keyboard so I can give accurate feedback. If you have a keyboard or piano at home, you’re good to go.

3. Do I need a good internet connection?

Yes, a stable connection is important for a smooth lesson. Nothing extreme, if you can stream videos without issues, you’ll be absolutely fine.

4. Do I need any experience?

Not at all.

I teach complete beginners through to advanced players. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to refine your jazz playing, lessons are tailored to your level.

5. What do you teach in lessons?

One of the most common things students ask for, is structure and how to practice! Lessons are built around your goals, but typically include:

  • Jazz harmony and improvisation
  • Chords and voicings
  • Ear training and technique
  • Learning songs properly

The focus is always on helping you play with confidence and understanding.

6. Do you offer a trial lesson?

Yes, I offer a free 30-minute first lesson.

This gives us a chance to meet, assess your level, and make sure the lessons are the right fit before committing.

7. How does pricing work?

Lessons are booked in 4-lesson blocks.

This helps maintain consistency and ensures real progress week to week, rather than starting and stopping.

8. Do you teach children?

Yes, I teach all ages.

I’ve worked with students as young as 6 through to adults, and adapt my approach depending on age and experience.

9. Can I use a keyboard or do I need a piano?

A keyboard is absolutely fine. As long as it has full-sized keys, we can work with it.

10. Can I connect my keyboard to the lesson audio?

Yes, and I can guide you through it if needed.

It’s not essential to start, but if you want higher-quality sound, we can set it up later.
